When coupon clipping goes wild

In just 12 half-hour episodes, a cable TV show on coupon clipping has managed to grab the attention of major U.S. retailers, give a boost to the struggling American newspaper industry and annoy established couponers. And that’s just for starters.

Rank-and-file couponers grumble that the show has given coupon clipping a bad name and caused retailers to tighten coupon policies. They’ve also leveled accusations of coupon fraud.

The price of self-service 95-octane gasoline will rise NIS 0.02 per liter, 0.3 percent, at the end of the month to NIS 7.29 per liter, the National Infrastructures Ministry announced Tuesday. The service charge for full-service gasoline will rise 5% to NIS 0.21 per liter.

The VAT-free price of self-service 95- octane gasoline in Eilat will rise to NIS 6.28 per liter, and the full-service fee will rise to NIS 0.18 per liter.

The drop in the price of oil during September partly offset the excise hike on gasoline, from NIS 2.86 per liter to NIS 2.95 per liter, following the expiration of the temporary directive cutting the excise during September. Read more…

Moody’s Cuts Cypriot Credit Rating

Cyprus joined the Euro in 2008. The island has two main communities, the Greek-Cypriot and the Turkish-Cypriots and suffered a civil war that left the country fractured into two halves in 1974. In 2004, the country joined the EU under restricted terms and since 2008, leaders of the two communities have been negotiating for a full reunification of the island.

Cyprus was relatively well placed, in debt terms, when the global financial crisis struck since it had had to adopt austerity measures in order to meet the convergence criteria for joining the Euro.

Misleading auto sales and advertising topped the Consumer Federation of America’s list of consumer complaints for 2010, followed by credit and debt-related issues, including predatory lending and mortgage fraud.

The list is based on a survey conducted by the CFA, the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators (NACAA), and the North American Consumer Protection Investigators (NACPI).

New to the top 10 complaint rankings was fraud. Anna Huddleston-Aycock, President of NACPI, said in a statement that consumer protection agencies and law enforcement are using media tools such as Twitter in an attempt to warn the public about scams.
