Former life insurance employee Mark Camacho, 41, of Cedar Hill has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for engaging in a conspiracy to defraud his employer of $900,000, the U.S. Attorney’s office of the Northern District of Texas said Friday.

Camacho is facing the sentence for a scheme that ended up costing his former employer Americo Life Insurance Co.

Camacho and several co-conspirators were indicted for a scheme Camacho hatched to transfer insurance agent commission accounts at his employer’s office into bank accounts opened by his co-conspirators.

Once the deposits were made, Camacho split the funds with his co-conspirators.

In addition to 30 months in federal prison, Camacho must pay $932,197.32 in restitution.

Six other defendants pleaded guilty at earlier sentencing hearings: Jerry R. Castillo, 37, of Mansfield; Brian Harris, 32, of Lancaster; as well as Carlos Rangel Jr., 35, of Dallas, Anthony Mendez, 34, of McKinney; Philip Hughes, 34, of Wylie; and John P. Mendez, 29, of Irving. All received jail time and were ordered to pay some restitution.
